This is a place with a real Wild West feel - a town of cowboy hats, wooden sidewalks, tumbleweed, country music saloons with swing doors and traditional wooden buildings. Jackson also happens to have the biggest ski mountain in North America liberally covered with light ‘cowboy’ powder and it has become a mecca for keen skiers everywhere. The gloriously uncrowded slopes are famously challenging, with lots of steep terrain and with the new Bridger Gondola there is fast and efficient access.
This really is a resort for good skiers, though in fairness beginners will have fun too. This is perhaps THE resort to go to for steep skiing though.Jackson has steeps that you cant find in Europe unless you go off piste with a guide. The terrain is sheer quality with almost Alpine vertical.Just check out Corbets couloir. The jump in, is for adrenalin seekers.
There is skiing for who are a little more timid on the slopes, but as the snowfall is normally plentiful, a lot of bumps appear on the blue runs, so confidence building may take a hit. Apres Vous would be the call for intermediate cruising, but all in all the extent of skiing for intermediates, who just want to ski groomed trails, can be limited,
The accommodation is centred at the quiet village at the base of the mountain at Teton, consisting of 3 quality hotels but the main area to stay and party is at Jackson Hole some 15 mins from the slopes, which does offer a great choice in a lively atmosphere. Can be a little more difficult to get to than other US resorts, but its well worth the trip and dont forget its only a short transfer from Jackson to Jackson Hole.Yellowstone Park is on your doorstep too.
